I read this in Slate the other day & it’s been really hard to forget…
Back in the early 60’s this test (PDF FILE) was given to anyone in Louisiana that could not prove at least a 5th grade education and wanted to vote. Test takers had 10 minutes to complete the test and ONE wrong answer would result in an immediate failure of the test.
Take a look at the test & let me know how you think YOU would do!
OK, if you can light your tap water on FIRE you have a BIG problem (or, you might be a redneck). Fracking has been in the news a lot this year. USA Today (among others) reported Fracking is causing earthquakes and introducing methane into the water supply. I don’t think the Culligan Man can help you here lady…
Remember the Gulf Oil Spill in 2010? Well, all of those dispersants and solvents used to break up the oil are now possibly linked to some serious genetic defects being found in the area sea life. Pretty scary stuff!
From Gizmodo: Al Jazeera just published an astonishing report on the after-effects of the BP oil disaster, and it’s not pretty. There are an alarming number of deformities in sea creatures: mutated shrimp, fish with sores and lesions, eyeless crabs and more. It’s unlike anything local fisherman have ever seen.
Snopes is one of those sites on the internet that can become a real time suck if you’re not careful. I use it as a reference when someone forwards me an email about some odd warning/hoax, etc. You can usually get the truth about it and I’ve been known to reply with a link to the site (in the hopes they might do some research before blindly passing on bogus info).
Below is one of the strangest stories in financial history, one involving the US government lying about hundreds of thousands of tons of imaginary gold, illegal wire transfers and loans totaling $15 trillion.
The video, from the House of Lords, is amazing in itself.
What it doesn’t express is where the money came from though Lord James of Blackheath proves conclusively that an effort was made to say it came from a gold reserve in Brunei that, in fact, never existed. [MORE]
Unfortunately he says 50-Trillion instead of 5-trillion but it all adds up to a LOT of money! Any idea what US department went “Rogue” to pull this off (Treasury, State, CIA, DIA)? Pretty amazing store that’s also pretty hard to believe. If this is true it has to be one of the largest money laundering operations in the history of the world.
