How to Cook Bacon

While on family vacation in Hilton Head many years ago I witnessed my sister and her husband shingling bacon on a cookie sheet and preparing to place it in the oven.  They promised me it was the best way to prepare bacon.  Doubtful, I waited for the outcome as I was convinced the resulting product could in no way resemble the bacon I prepare on the skillet…  WOW, they were right, this IS the best way to prepare those little strips of smokey pig goodness!  Little to no mess, far more precision in doneness, and you can fix 2-3 times more at a time than in a traditional 12″ pan!

Oven Cooked Bacon

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Arrange bacon* in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet (thick-cut bacon works best).
  3. Bake for approximately 30-minutes or until bacon reaches the desired doneness.
  4. Remove from oven and promptly blot on several layers of paper towel.

NOTE: If you are using multiple sheet pans be sure to rotate after 15 minutes to promote even cooking!

We make bacon in 1-pound batches and store it in the refrigerator for the week.  it’s great on sandwiches and crumbled into salads.  Everything is better with Bacon!

*We prefer applewood smoked bacon from Nueskes.  This bacon can be found in the butcher case at The Fresh Market stores nationwide or online at nueskes.com.
