2023 Week 1 – Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2023! I hope everyone had a nice New Year’s weekend and returned to the office with a new spark, ready to tackle what 2023 has to offer. I was off work for 2 solid weeks and was ready to hit the ground running when we all came back into the office last Tuesday.

It’s official! Saraga International Grocery in Castleton is FINALLY open! The grand opening and ribbon cutting were on December 23, but we were in the middle of an artic freeze, so I’m sure the turnout was pretty light. I had an invite but decided to stay home and stay warm instead. I stopped by after Christmas for a brief walkthru, knowing I would be returning later in the week for some more serious shopping.

If you’re looking for that hard-to-find ingredient or like to try foods from other countries, this is a place you must check out. It’s no Jungle Jim’s, but it will fill the need for a lot of items I would normally drive to Cincinnati for.

I’m a slow riser in the AM & after getting a short news brief from NPR via the Alexa alarm, I like to scan the headlines before getting out of bed. There are some really good newsletters out there, and because of these, I can’t tell you the last time I sat down and watched the local news. Some of my favorites are:

Now, I don’t read all of these each morning, but I always have at least one in my inbox queued up for something to read when I have some downtime, like standing in line or waiting for my food at a restaurant. Do you have a favorite daily newsletter to share? Leave us a link in the comments!

And finally… When was the last time you watched a truck being built? It’s amazing the amount of automation in use these days, and the following video shows how they assemble the new Ford F-150 Lightning.

2022 Week 21 – Born of a Need

We’re in the second half of May and the City of Indianapolis is abuzz with activity leading up to the ”Big Race” on May 29. The Indianapolis 500 is about the only Indy Car race I watch. I’m more of an F1 fan so the Monaco race on the morning of the 29th will be my focus that day.

I subscribe to the Hoosier History Live newsletter (and podcast) and recently they had an issue focusing on the creation of the Geist & Morse Reservoirs. Both articles were interesting reading and a nice history lesson about the two local landmarks.

Another short post as I have a busy week ahead of me. Big announcement coming in the next post. I’m looking forward to that one!

Blogs I’m Following (Part 1) – Technology

I’m a hug RSS feed fanatic.  As of this writing I’m tracking 199 RSS feeds with Google Reader and using Feedly on top of everything to present it in an organized manner.  I read everything from technology to food to entertainment & a few other genres.

Over the next few posts I’m going to share some of my favorite feeds.  This time we’re going to start with technology.

Lifehacker – If you like to tinker, this site is for you.  Lots of fun things to do with common (and not so common) things around the house and office.

Crackberry – If you use a Blackberry, this is the site that will keep you informed about your addictive little device.  There are several imitators but this one is the best.

The Gadgeteer – A tech blog with an Indiana connection.  I’ve been following Julie and her reviews for years.  This site has a daily “deal of the day” that can save you a lot of money.

IndyGeek.net – A new (at least for me) Indiana tech blog with daily podcast.  It definitely has potential to grow and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen so far!

The Wall Street Journal – Technology – My new “national newspaper” site now that the NY Times went to a pay model.  I actually like the reporting better & never thought anyone could dethrone David Pogue.

Engadget – This one just about rounds out (and covers) everything.  sometimes there are more posts per day than I can follow, but a really great source of information nonetheless.

The list above just covers the top tech feeds I follow daily.  There are others that I check out a few times a week.  What are some of your favorite RSS feeds?

Next up…  My favorite Food links!

Fox News – Oops, we thought it was a High Speed Chase!

Sitting in McDonald’s this afternoon watching Fox News… They broke into whatever they were covering to broadcast a car chase in California Miami. The local news copter was following a car that was all over the road & speeding like crazy in and out of traffic. The driver eventually pulled into a parking lot, put on a work shirt and walked into a building. They zoomed out and there were NO POLICE CARS! They were reporting this as a high speed chase & all they had was a guy driving like a lunatic to WORK! Funniest thing I have seen in a long time. It was the “Car Chase That Never Was”!!! Trying to find a video of it. Priceless.
